A recent article posted by The Project Management Institute (PMI) titled “The ROI of Social responsibility” elaborates on this topic and relates it to how it’s affecting managers. The article states that “Project leaders are certainly ready for action: 8 in 10 project professionals list social impact as a personal concern, and 87 per cent say it is a concern for their organization.” Yet, companies must also turn a profit and keep growing to maintain market share or sustain ever-growing amounts of inflation. So how do managers track their sustainable progress? According to the article, it’s first by “meeting with stakeholders.” Since “collaboration with community stakeholders can also help project leaders identify and mitigate negative repercussions.”
To measure social impacts, companies can devise their index scores. To create such measurements, one must gather data first. PMI states “ Data drives positive social impact. To prevent efforts from straying into the abstract, companies need to measure their efforts with hard data, whether that’s the number of jobs created, or the amount of clean water delivered.” Example: Coca-Cola “used its materiality survey of roughly 1,000 internal and external stakeholders to define its 2025 sustainability commitment.”
